For patients undergoing body contouring surgery procedures, the post operative plan includes wearing garments for a certain amount of time. The recommended type of garment and length of wear is specific to the procedure performed.
WHAT POST SURGICAL GARMENTS DO:
- Minimize swelling
- Promote healthy blood circulation
- Reduce bulging or rippling in the treatment area
- Improve and support mobility
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN PURCHASING GARMENTS:
- Good fit: Moderate compression but not so tight it cuts off circulation
- Easy to put on and take off
- Washable
Overall, the garment should completely cover the treated area and not leave any treated area exposed. Dr. McDonald advises to wear the garments 24/7 for the first week, although it’s safe to remove when washing or showering. The most important thing is that the garment is comfortable enough that the patient WILL wear it.
