What is a BBL?

BBL refers to Brazilian Butt Lift; a gluteal fat transfer procedure. BBL is a specialized fat transfer procedure that augments the size and shape of the buttocks without implants. During a BBL procedure, Dr. Scott McDonald removes excess fat from the hips, abdomen, lower back, or thighs with liposuction, and a portion of this fat is then strategically injected into the buttocks.

Is BBL Safe?

Dr. McDonald is VERY particular about the BBL operation as there have been concerns about complications with the gluteal fat transfer for several years. The procedure has matured and there are now acceptable techniques that have lowered the risks and complications substantially.  Dr. McDonald performs several BBL surgeries each week and his complication rate remains extremely low while maintaining very good results.

Am I a good candidate?

When choosing to have any cosmetic surgery, a patient should have a BMI (body mass index) of 30 or below. This helps with both recovery and results. For the BBL procedure specifically, its best if the patient is close to her ideal weight. The fat transfer procedure is long lasting and effective, however, large  weight gains or losses can affect the final result. The patient must have enough fat in the abdomen, love handles and/or flanks to harvest. If patients are too thin, the BBL may be less effective.

How is the Recovery?

Pain is typically minimal and controlled with pain medication. However, recovery from BBL surgery is different than other cosmetic procedures. Patients will need to avoid sitting directly on their buttocks for 2 weeks.  A donut seat will be used until the patient can sit normally after 8 weeks or so.

You should be able to resume light daily activities within 1 week after surgery and return to work within 10 to 14 days.

How Long does BBL Last?

Brazilian Butt Lift results can last many years. Fat cells removed with liposuction will not return to the area, and fat cells that survive transfer to the buttocks will remain for years. However, significant weight fluctuations can affect your results, so maintain a stable weight to keep your results looking their best.

Results are typically final within 6 months of surgery, after residual swelling has gone away and you are fully healed. By this time, your curvier buttocks and improved lower body proportions will be noticeable in how you look and in the way clothing fits.

How Much Does BBL Cost?

A Brazilian Butt Lift costs between $6,000 -$7,000. This price includes all pre-op and post-op appointments as well as the anesthesia and facility.  It does not cover pre-op labwork, post surgical garments (compression garments, boards and donut seat) and medications.
